Adam Coulson
Adam Coulson was born and educated in Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow University, a Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery with honours in 1982. A job in South Derbyshire with farm animals, pets and horses, resulted in a decision to specialise in small companion animals only. Adam moved to The Veterinary Hospital, Plymouth in 1986, opening the Plymstock surgery in September of the same year. The Veterinary Centre, Plymstock soon became at that time the busiest of our veterinary centres. With an interest in x-rays, Adam obtained the Certificate in Veterinary Radiology, following 2 years of study, in 1993. This interest, now encompassing ultrasound also, has continued to this day. Adam has also developed the laboratory work in the practice, with an enormous increase in the amount of clinical pathology done. Both of these areas overlap in the field of medical diagnosis, which now includes a bit of time on the blunt end of an endoscope also.
Having become a partner in the practice in 1994, Adam is involved in practice management, looking to the future development of The Veterinary Hospital Group. He is a past President of The British Veterinary Hospitals Association (BVHA), and also sat on a central British Veterinary Association (BVA) committee. BVHA is involved in setting the standards that Veterinary (not animal) hospitals have to achieve and in the design of veterinary practices. Adam has 2 grown up children and a cat. Outside interests include music, cinema, DIY and motor sport. Exercise comes in the form of swimming, cycling and middle distance running.
