Claire Palmer
Claire was born in Cornwall and spent all of her school days in the seaside town of Penzance. She then decided to see what the world was like outside Cornwall and was consequently accepted to attend The Welsh Institute of Rural Studies (University of Wales), Aberystwyth, studying for a Higher National Diploma in Equine Studies. Claire was one of the few who graduated with merit in July 2000 and was offered a place to top up her diploma to a degree. However she decided that she could not afford to be a student any longer!
Because of her love for horses, Claire initially intended to become an Equine Veterinary Nurse. However in order to fulfil this goal Claire needed to undertake the two years of study and work with small animals prior to specialising. Claire was lucky enough to be offered a place at The Veterinary Hospital as a Student VN which she took up in August of 2000.
Claire qualified as a VN in July 2004 . She enjoys all aspects of the job and is currently the nurse in charge of the wards at the hospital. She also runs the hospital laboratory and would love to work in a veterinary laboratory. Claire is intending sitting the Certificate in Pharmacology, a new qualification for VNs taught at Duchy College.
Away from work, Claire lives in Callington with partner Jon and her border collie Finlay. She regularly visits her family and still loves horse riding.
