The Practice
John Bower purchased the practice in North Hill in 1969 from Findlay Mackenzie (deceased). The business had been in existence for some 20 years previously as a single handed small animal practice. John was soon joined in partnership by Phil Hunt in 1976, who until recently ran the dentistry department. David Youngs, an experienced surgeon joined the practice when the hospital at Estover was being built in 1980. These three “founders” have now all retired, Phil in 2005, John and David in 2007. Adam Coulson and Stephen O'Shea joined in 1986/7 and subsequently have brought expertise to the practice in the form of certificates in Veterinary Radiology and Cardiology respectively. Caroline Bower is one of the few vets to hold the Diploma in Pet Behaviour Counselling, and receives referrals from all over the South West. Sanjaya Kanagasundaram is interested in skin problems and holds the Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology. Katie Lenton’s special interest is surgery and she has now obtained her Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. Jasmine Malm is studying for the Certificate in Small Animal Medicine as she is particularly interested in pets’ medical problems, diagnosis, and treatment. Our special interests enable us to help you and your pets, and we accept referrals from other veterinary surgeons.
The practice has grown and as well as our Veterinary Hospital base we have Veterinary Centres in Lipson, Plympton, Plymstock and St Budeaux, and The Grooming Centre in our St Budeaux branch. We would be delighted to send you a copy of our practice brochure which is now available.
