Sarah Mitchell VN
Sarah graduated from The University of Plymouth in 1995 with a BSc in Ocean Science, and her first job was as a commercial diver collecting sediment samples near sewage outfalls! She worked as a marine scientist in the water industry, and as a research student at Southampton Institute, before taking the opportunity to change career whilst living in the Middle East.
Sarah worked as a nursing assistant at the British Veterinary Centre in Abu Dhabi, and Paphiakos & C.C.P. Animal Welfare Clinic in Cyprus. On returning to the UK, she worked for SouthMoor Vets on the edge of Dartmoor and started her nurse training there.
Sarah joined the Veterinary Hospital Group as a student veterinary nurse in 2007 and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in January 2009.
Sarah has a particular interest in animal training and behaviour, especially preventing behaviour problems in puppies. She runs a Puppy Socialisation Course at our Lipson branch, and a Puppy Training Course to help our clients continue their basic training and make the most of early learning opportunities. She is also available for one to one training sessions.
To the puppies of Plymouth, Sarah is known as 'The Sausage Lady'.
Outside work, Sarah's time is taken up looking after her three dogs - a Border Collie, Labrador, and a street dog from Abu Dhabi - and an African Grey Parrot rescued from the clinic. Dog training has been a big part of Sarah's life for many years - she used to compete in dog agility, loves clicker training to teach new things, and is fascinated by how animals learn.
Sarah also plays violin with 'Poisson Rouge', a French/Breton dance music band who appeared at our last open day - and with the Ceilidh band 'Sheer Hopody'.
